ABOVE & BEYOND (2021)

I was tasked with creating a promotional brand hero video for an environmentally conscious lip balm, capturing the problem, solve, mission and spirit of the brand whilst showcasing the product throughout. This project was unique in that I was involved in every single stage of production. First a design/concept exploration, which then moved on to making a creative pitch, writing the script, designing frames, animating, editing and music/sound design. It was crazy fun to do all these different roles and incredibly rewarding to see it all come together. The brand trusted my vision and was very supportive during the whole process, which included an out of the box approach to design, unconventional language and laidback attitude.

I started with a color palette based on existing colors the brand had, with the addition of the orange for contrast. I developed multiple gradients that move across the background at different points.

From the beginning I knew the typographic moments were as important as everything else, as there was a lot to say, and especially given the subject matter —climate change branding unfortunately has become quite bland and repetitive.
