NYJAH “ii”

NIKE SB (2020)

I was involved in the editing as well as the motion graphics. It’s a social media video to promote the latest Nyjah Huston sneakers, the follow up to his first Nike collaboration. The main idea was to highlight how the engineering of the shoes not only made them good looking, but also extremely comfortable and easy to skate on.

I designed this frame for the intro. I used different typographies and sizes to represent the adaptability of the shoe. It also worked well to keep it consistent with Nike branding style.

It was important to feature Nyjah first, and then jump into the specifics of the shoe. We used a video of him skating a DTLA rail as call back element, to sandwhich the specifics of the shoe in the middle, and then show the jump at the end of the video.

I animated all graphics (some were provided by Nike) and also designed some of my own, like this “nike skating character”, to pair with the idea of shoes being comfortable “right out of the box”.

Finally, we used a “live” poster of the shoes and highlight some more specifics. I introduced some hand-drawn animations which, together with the kinetic typography, makes it feels very dynamic and “street”.

I also designed a shorter clip for Instagram stories.
